Dr. Luis Santillán specializes in minimally invasive cardiac interventions including cardiac catheterization, stenting as well as the treatment of acute myocardial infarction. Cardiac catheterization involves the insertion of a long tube (catheter) that is placed in the patient’s wrist or leg through which guidewires, balloons, and stents needed to unclog the arteries of the heart can be inserted into the heart. In the vast majority of cases this is done under local anesthesia and the patient remains conscious throughout the procedure, allowing for a quick recovery and discharge of the patient in 24 hours. Other procedures usually performed by Dr. Santillán are the placement of pacemakers, the placement of vena cava filters, the implantation of chemotherapy catheters. El Dr. Luis Santillán se especializa en intervenciones cardíacas de mínima invasión que incluyen cateterismo cardiaco, colocación de stents así con el tratamiento del infarto agudo al miocardio. El cateterismo cardíaco consiste en la inserción de un tubo largo (catéter) que se coloca en la muñeca o la pierna del paciente a través del cual se pueden introducir hasta el corazón guías, balones y stents necesarios para destapar las arterias del corazón. En la gran mayoría de los casos ésto se realiza con anestesia local y el paciente se mantiene consciente durante todo el procedimiento permitiendo una rápida recuperación y alta del paciente en 24 horas. Otros procedimientos habitualmente realizados por el Dr. Santillán son la colocación de marcapasos, la colocación de filtros de vena cava, el implante de catéteres para quimioterapia. Pero también se pueden realizar intervenciones tan complejas como reparación de defectos cardíacos, implante de válvulas cardiacas trans catéter (TAVI, por sus siglas en inglés), así como el tratamiento de arritmias cardiacas trans catéter (ablación de arritmias) con puede ser la fibrilación auricular.
